BA Sociology
The programme offers training to the students by equipping them with the ability to critically think and analyse social facts and social relationships.An empirical understanding of social life helps the learner to examine and question social problems.The learner attains basic research skills, scientific knowledge and logical reasoning, which eventually leads to the ability to enquire and analyse real – life scenarios with methodological backing. A deeper understanding of the theories helps the learner to develop a wider perspective of social organisation and progress in everyday life.It was converted to 4-year programme.
MA Sociology
The proposed programme, Master of Arts in Sociology is duly approved by the competent academic bodies of the university. The students are expected to enjoy the flexibility of choice from an impressive basket of majors. The choice-based credit system deployed in the delivery of the programmes ensures the relevance of the pedagogy with the practices across the country. The programme is organised on a semester basis and the programme has 4 semesters spread over 2 years.The programme offer the opportunity for students to think about and explore interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to the learner with numerous opportunities for competitive exams. The learner will be able to distinguish between sociological and common sense knowledge with analytical perspectives to understand the social actions, societal concerns, social phenomena etc. This course offers sociological concepts, theories, methodologies, perspectives and aids in social engineering and social reconstruction of the social system.
BA (HONOURS) Sociology
The programme is organized on a semester basis and has 8 semesters spread over 4 years. The students are expected to complete all the required courses for 176 credits. The student has to complete Eight Major Discipline Core Courses (MC) courses, three out of a pool of 6 Major discipline-specific elective (ME) courses according to their choice, four Minor Discipline Courses, Four Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AC), two from English and two from Modern Indian Languages (MIL), three Value Added Courses (two are compulsory), two Skill Enhancement Courses (SE) with basket of choices for each one or MOOC courses, three Multidisciplinary courses (MD) from the pool defined by other disciplines than the ones chosen by the student as major subject for their study. In the fourth year, the learner has to embark on three advanced discipline-specific courses, three from research methods/discipline-specific courses and two from additional advanced discipline-specific courses, and one Internship/Project course to fulfill the requirements of the proposed programme.
